Endogenous sex hormone and estrogen binding activity in thyroid cancer.

چکیده
The reactions of four anti-sex hormone (Estrone, Estradiol, Estriol and Testosterone) antisera were immunohistochemically examined in 109 cancerous and 80 normal and benign thyroid tissues. Four kinds of sex hormones were detected in the tumour cells of 61 cases (56%) of thyroid cancer and in the follicular epithelial cells of 4 cases (5%) of normal and benign thyroid tissues. Among the thyroid cancers, 54 female (61%) and 7 cases in males (33%) were positive for sex hormones. Furthermore, estrogen binding activity was screened histochemically in 36 thyroid tissues of various types, and detected not only in thyroid cancer (6/15 cases), but in normal and benign thyroid tissues (4/21 cases) as well. It was concluded that endogenous estradiol was located in thyroid cancers more frequently in females than in males and that there was estrogen binding activity in the cells of not only thyroid cancers, but also normal and benign thyroid tissues. This is the first report of the demonstration of endogenous sex hormones in thyroid cancer.

Leptin in Breast Cancer: Its Relationship with Insulin, Estrogens and Oxidative Stress
Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women. Several risk factors such as age, family history of breast cancer, marital status, early menarche and late menopause are related to breast cancer. Obesity is also a main health problem associated with breast cancer incidence and subsequent mortality. Association between obesity and expansion of breast cancer may be due to excessive sex steroid h...
متن کاملCrosstalk between Integrin αvβ3 and Estrogen Receptor-α Is Involved in Thyroid Hormone-Induced Proliferation in Human Lung Carcinoma Cells
A cell surface receptor for thyroid hormone that activates extracellular regulated kinase (ERK) 1/2 has been identified on integrin αvβ3. We have examined the actions of thyroid hormone initiated at the integrin on human NCI-H522 non-small cell lung carcinoma and NCI-H510A small cell lung cancer cells. At a physiologic total hormone concentration (10(-7) M), T(4) significantly increased prolife...
متن کاملAssociation between the Asp327Asn Polymorphism of Sex Hormone-Binding Globulin Gene and Prostate Cancer
Background: By binding SHBG hormone to sex hormones, in addition to carrying them in the blood, they regulate the amount of tissue availability. Since the genetic changes in the structure of globulin affect it’s binding to hormones, so in this study the effects of single nucleotide change in exon 8 or rs 6259 in the incidence of prostate cancer is evaluated. Methods: The study populati...
متن کاملSerum Liver proteins and 17β-estradiol in Postmenopausal Women with Breast Cancer
Background: Breast cancer is a hormone-dependent malignancy that is associated with estrogen and progesterone interactions. The liver is the most important organ to be affected by the metastasis of breast cancer, which causes functional impairment. We compared levels of obesity, 17β-estradiol, and secreted proteins in postmenopausal women with breast cancer but without hepatic symptoms to those...
متن کاملNo association between a tetranucleotide repeat polymorphism of CYP19 and prostate cancer.
The CYP19 gene encodes the enzyme aromatase, which plays a key role in the conversion of androgen to estrogen. The prostate is influenced by estrogen from peripheral sources as well as through aromatase activity in its stroma (1). There is evidence of elevated levels of aromatase activity and mRNA expression in stromal cells in prostate cancer as well as increasing evidence of cross-talk betwee...
